Pavel Zlamal (*1980)

Performer, improviser, composer. Graduated from the Conservatory in Teplice, bachelor's and master's program at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, now a student of the PhD program. During his studies he spent two years at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (FIN), beside the main subject - clarinet - also studied bass clarinet and saxophone. During the studies increasingly devoted himself tomodern,contemporary, jazz and experimental music. He participated in many international master classes, jazz and experimental workshops.


Not only regarding doctoral studies PZ focus
es his attention and practical activity to contemporary music and experimental with a strong focus on free improvisation. As a clarinet virtuoso has a wide repertoire of international composers (Outside the classical works of Mozart, Weber CMvon, R.Schumann, A.Coplanda etc., Also advanced as the contemporary: C.Nielsen, K.Stockhausen, L.Berio, E.Denisov , P.Boulez, F.Donatoni, C.Ambrosini, B.Mantovani, A. Berg, G.Scelsi, I.Stravinskij, John Adams, John Corigliano, etc.). Premiered dedicated works of Peter Graham: Broken Concerto (2012), church composition Death has a smile on its face (2014), COAX (2015); or clarinet solo of Michael Nejtek - Tasted Thoughts (2015). In addition to solo concert activities in the field of contemporary and experimental music, he collaborated with musicians such as .: Rod Paton, David has, Bernadette Zeilinger, Peter Graham, Nicolas Collins, Hilary Jeffery, Didrik Ingvaldsen, Dag Magnus Narvessen, Chris Heenan, Ivan Palacky and others. Established improvisation duo forms with bassist George Cremaschi (USA).


As a versatile player and improviser remunerated their multi
genre experience by performing with orchestras in the field of classical music, pop, jazz and experimental: past engagementsin orchestra of the National Theatre Brno, Brno City Theatre, currently member of Brno big band “B-Side Band”, The Fireballs & Gone Hepsville (authentic & original 50's rock'n'roll band). PZ is an established player on the jazz scene as an author, leader and sideman. He was a member of an international project ÖNCZkekvist improvising orchestra, with whom he recorded the CD in the Vienna Radio, cooperates with Prague Improvising Orchestra, Brno Contemporary Orchestra and the Brno Philharmonic.


In addition,
PZ is the founder and leader of original ensembles Next Phase (avantgarde-jazz), Brno Improvising Unit (experimental / free music), which released a CDs. The latest projects is Divergent Connections Orchestra (Orchestra for controlled improvisation). In Brno he is leading concept of directed (conducted) jam sessions "Broken Jam". He is author of his own music: in addition to repertoire Next Phase, graphic and conceptual scores, jazz songs, is creator of the unfinished cycle "Way of Consideration" for solo instruments (clarinet / bass clarinet / saxophone).


He has performed at festivals of contemporary and experimental music, among others: Exposition of New Music, Alternative, vs.Interpretation,
New music plus, Ostrava Days, Music Olomouc, Art's Birthday, Hear Me !, Ugly Music Festival as a soloist and member of various formations.
Works also as a teacher, not only within the JAMU.
